Tenure faculty (regardless of rank) - persons with the titles of professor, associate professor, assistant professor and instructor who serve on appointments totaling 50% or more service to the university and who are eligible for tenure or who have obtained tenure. Duties and responsibilities are assigned in accordance with the workload guidelines laid out in the pattern of administration of each faculty member’s tenure initiation unit (TIU) and, as appropriate, regional campus; obligations will include research, service and/or teaching or clinical practice.  These faculty will have earned doctorate or other terminal degree in the relevant field of study or possession of equivalent experience.

The Ohio State University Comprehensive Cancer Center – Arthur G. James Cancer Hospital and Richard J. Solove Research Institute is committed to reducing the burden of cancer across Ohio through meaningful partnerships with communities, health systems, public health agencies, advocacy organizations, and policymakers. As part of the Cancer Center Support Grant (CCSG) requirements established by the National Cancer Institute, the Center for Community Outreach and Engagement (COE) serves as the bridge between cancer center research and the communities it serves, ensuring that community needs, priorities, and perspectives inform cancer research, clinical trials, education, and cancer control efforts.

The COE Center works to ensure bi-directional engagement between the cancer center and diverse populations across Ohio, with particular emphasis on rural, Appalachian, underserved, and historically marginalized communities. Through partnerships, research translation, dissemination, implementation, and policy engagement, the Center advances equitable access to cancer prevention, screening, treatment, survivorship, and clinical trials.

The Center also plays a critical role in supporting cancer center priorities related to catchment area assessment, health equity, community-engaged research, clinical trial participation, dissemination and implementation science, workforce development, and population health improvement.

Position Overview

The Center for Community Outreach and Engagement seeks an accomplished scholar and leader to serve as Assistant Director for Community Outreach and Engagement .

The Assistant Director will work closely with the COE Founding Director, Cancer Center leadership, research programs, shared resources, faculty investigators, community stakeholders, and health system partners to advance the cancer center's community-engaged mission and CCSG priorities.

This position is designed for a nationally recognized faculty member with expertise in community-engaged research, implementation science, cancer prevention and control, health equity, population health, healthcare delivery, rural health, disparities research, or related fields.

The Assistant Director will provide scientific and strategic leadership for community engagement activities, facilitate integration of community priorities into cancer center research programs, strengthen partnerships throughout Ohio, and develop innovative approaches to reducing cancer disparities across the cancer control continuum.

The successful candidate will maintain an active funded research portfolio while helping lead the cancer center's efforts to demonstrate meaningful impact on cancer outcomes within its catchment area.

Primary Responsibilities

Community Outreach and Engagement

• Partner with the Founding Director to develop and execute the strategic vision for Community Outreach and Engagement.

• Support implementation of COE goals aligned with Cancer Center Support Grant requirements.

• Assist in developing infrastructure that supports meaningful bi-directional engagement between communities and researchers.

• Promote integration of community priorities into cancer center planning and research activities.

• Serve as a representative of the cancer center in statewide and national community engagement efforts when Founding Director is not available.

Community Partnerships and Stakeholder Engagement

• Build and maintain relationships with:

• Healthcare systems

• Advocacy groups

• Schools and universities

• Government agencies

• Employer organizations

• Patient and survivor groups

• Support development and management of Community Advisory Boards and COE stakeholder councils.

• Promote community trust and long-term partnership development.

Community-Engaged Research

• Foster meaningful collaborations between researchers and community stakeholders.

• Promote utilization of community-engaged and participatory research approaches.

• Facilitate partnerships that address community-identified cancer priorities.

• Support incorporation of community perspectives into research design, implementation, and dissemination.

• Expand opportunities for community participation in cancer research and clinical trials.

Secondary Responsibilities

Catchment Area and Cancer Burden Assessment

• Utilize community input, population data, and stakeholder feedback to develop strategies targeting areas with the greatest cancer burden.

• Support translation of catchment area data into actionable research priorities and community interventions.

Cancer Health Equity and Disparities Reduction

• Support initiatives aimed at reducing disparities in cancer prevention, screening, diagnosis, treatment, clinical trial participation, and survivorship.

• Support strategies that improve outcomes among rural, Appalachian, minority, underserved, and medically vulnerable populations.

• Promote culturally responsive and community-informed interventions.

• Collaborate with healthcare systems and community partners to address social determinants of health impacting cancer outcomes.

Education and Workforce Development

• Develop educational opportunities related to:

• Health equity

• Cancer control

• Dissemination and implementation science
