JOB PURPOSE AND REPORTING STRUCTURE: The Lab Analyst II performs sample preparation, performs analytical and/or assay testing, and manages data in support of Materion's requirements for customers and the AS9100D Quality Management System. The Lab Analyst II reports to the Senior Analytical Chemist or Analytical Lab Manager as appropriate, with dotted line responsibility to the department lead.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Work with the department lead to receive training, use the QMS software to access and acknowledge training documents and work instructions. Provide training to other lab personnel as required.
- Comply with all procedures and good laboratory practices. Provide input for improvement of standard procedures regarding sample preparation and instrumental analysis.
- Follow standard procedures regarding sample preparation prior to instrumental analysis; this entails using rolling and cutting equipment, very accurate weighing of samples, hot plate or microwave acid digestion of samples, and accurate dilutions among other common laboratory procedures; attention to detail is a key requirement.
- Perform testing and data recording for provided samples using the following techniques (not necessarily a complete listing):
- Inductively Coupled Plasma – Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES)
- Glow Discharge Mass Spectrometery (GDMS)
- Instrumental Gas Analysis (IGA)
- Tap Density, Screen Sieve Analysis, Average Particle Diameter
- Titration
- Metallography: Grain Size, % Recrystallization, Hardness
- Tensile Testing
- Maintain open and active communication with managers regarding workflow, issues, and opportunities for improvement.
- Perform basic cleaning and maintenance of equipment.
- Provide training and guidance to other lab personnel on analytical methods and practices.
- Able to maintain a safe, clean work environment, including the handling and movement of bulk acids.
- Proficient in the use of Excel functions, SAP and other standard office software.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
- Prefer two- or four-year degree (preferably in a STEM field).
- High school diploma, technical school, or GED required at a minimum, coupled with 5 or more years of relevant analytical laboratory experience.
TECHNICAL SKILLS: The individual must be able to perform the following
- Basic to Intermediate mathematical calculations
- Interpretation of customer specifications
- Understand ASTM standards with guidance
- Follow directions to fulfill requirements for AS9100D
LANGUAGE SKILLS: As this role requires effective communication with other employees and the comprehension of customer specifications and other technical documents, the individual must be very proficient in speaking and writing the English language.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit. The employee frequently is required to use hands to finger, handle or touch objects, tools or controls; and talk or hear. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, stoop, kneel and crouch. Specific visions abilities required by this job include close vision. Good manual dexterity is required for the completion of precise and accurate tasks in a repeatable fashion.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to low concentrations of fumes or airborne particles and toxic or caustic chemicals. All such exposures are customarily within limits established by federal and state regulatory bodies. The noise level in the work environment is usually low. Use of PPE is required to perform certain job functions.

Pay Range:
$28.54-$35.24
Actual base salary offered varies based on factors, including but not limited to, relevant skill, prior experience, education, base salary of internal peers, demonstrated performance, and geographic location.
The selection of the person to be hired for this position is contingent on the candidate having export compliance eligibility for access to U.S. controlled technology which comes under the licensing jurisdiction of the U.S. Department of State, International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR) and the U.S. Department of Commerce, Export Administration Regulations (EAR).
