POSITION SPECIFICS
The Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing at The Pennsylvania State University invites applications for a Non-Tenure Teaching Faculty in the Doctor of Nursing Practice – Nurse Anesthesia (DNP-NA) Program, a collaborative academic-practice partnership with the College of Medicine. We seek a dynamic, clinically experienced Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) with a doctoral degree in nursing and a strong commitment to nurse anesthesia education, clinical excellence, and scholarly engagement. Ideal candidates will contribute to preparing the next generation of CRNA leaders through innovative teaching, simulation-based learning, and active involvement in research or evidence-based practice. The successful candidate will collaborate with the DNP-NA leadership team to foster an inclusive learning environment and support program accreditation, student success, and clinical partnerships.
Job Responsibilities
Teaching & Clinical Instruction

Provide high-quality instruction in nurse anesthesia didactic and clinical courses.

Develop and deliver simulation-based learning experiences aligned with program competencies and accreditation standards.

Facilitate student learning in basic sciences, anesthesia principles, and clinical practicum.
Scholarship
-
Engage in scholarly activities such as research, publications, conference presentations, or evidence-based practice initiatives.
-
Mentor students in the development and implementation of DNP scholarly projects.
-
Contribute to advancing nurse anesthesia practice through programmatic or interdisciplinary scholarship.
Service & Leadership
-
Serve on committees within the DNP-NA program, Nese College of Nursing, and/or College of Medicine.
-
Support student mentorship, academic advising, and professional development.
-
Contribute to curriculum development, accreditation efforts, and continuous quality improvement.
Community & Professional Engagement
-
Foster partnerships with clinical sites and preceptors to ensure optimal student learning experiences.
-
Represent the College in local, state, or national nurse anesthesia organizations or conferences.
-
Promote diversity, equity, inclusion, and well-being in all academic and clinical activities.
Minimum Qualifications
-
Doctoral degree (PhD, DNP, DNAP, or EdD) in Nursing from an accredited institution.
-
Current certification or recertification as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist (CRNA) by the NBCRNA.

Currently licensed to practice as a registered nurse by state of employment or holds a multistate RN license through the interstate Nurse Licensure Compact.

Minimum of one year of clinical experience as a CRNA.

Commitment to excellence in teaching and student support in graduate nurse anesthesia education.

Assistant Teaching Professor - The assistant teaching professor should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to his/her teaching specialization; alternatively, the assistant teaching professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter.

Associate Teaching Professor - The associate teaching professor should possess a terminal degree in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated ability as a teacher and adviser; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter. Alternatively, the associate teaching professor without a terminal degree should possess at least a master's degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated exceptional ability as a teacher and adviser while in the rank of senior lecturer or instructor; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter at a level of distinction beyond that of the assistant teaching professor.

Teaching Professor - The teaching professor should possess a terminal degree in an academic field related to their teaching specialization; must have demonstrated exceptional ability as a teacher and adviser while in the rank of associate teaching professor; and must have shown evidence of professional growth, scholarship, and/or mastery of subject matter at a level of distinction beyond that of the associate teaching professor.
Preferred Qualifications:

Two years of clinical experience as a CRNA.

Prior academic teaching experience in a nurse anesthesia program.

Experience in simulation-based instruction and clinical skills education.

Experience with accreditation processes (COA and/or CCNE).

A program of scholarship evidenced by research, publications, or grant activity.

Experience mentoring DNP or graduate nursing students.
