Senior Software Engineer, Development Engineering Workflows, Core OS

The Development Engineering Workflows team builds the systems that power how operating systems are developed at Apple. Core OS creates the software foundation for every Apple product, ensuring tight integration between hardware and software to provide a platform for magical user experiences. You will design and build the agentic systems and services that Core OS engineers rely on to develop, test, and ship the software behind every Apple product. Description
You will own the design and delivery of agentic workflows, backend services, and a developer platform that transforms how Core OS develops software. You will work directly with Core OS teams to identify workflow opportunities, build APIs and tools that agents act through, and operate services that keep everything fast and reliable. Because your tools are your products, you get to draw on your own experience as a developer to shape everything you build.

Responsibilities
Stand up and operate the backend services that power development workflows, maintaining performance and reliability as adoption grows.
Build evaluation harnesses that measure and defend workflow quality before it reaches engineers.
Partner with Core OS teams to identify the most impactful workflow opportunities, then prototype and ship them.
Deliver the developer platform that brings agentic tools to engineers across Core OS.

Minimum qualifications
4+ years of experience developing and shipping production software, such as Python, Swift, or Go.
1+ year of hands-on experience building agentic workflows or systems powered by large language models (LLMs).
Experience designing and building backend services and APIs.
Working knowledge of distributed systems fundamentals.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a passion for developer tooling and product quality.

Preferred qualifications
Experience with agent tooling, including tool and function calling, Model Context Protocol (MCP), or retrieval-augmented generation (RAG).
Experience with evaluation frameworks for agent quality, including benchmarks, regression tests, and confidence scoring.
Experience building developer tooling, continuous integration systems, or build systems.
Experience shipping tools that teams beyond your own have adopted.
Prior development in Unix, Linux, or macOS.
