Senior/Lead Economist, Macroeconomic and Financial Research (Contract)

[What the role is]

You will be part of the Labour Market and Research Division within the Economic Policy Group of the MAS undertaking in-depth analysis on macroeconomic and financial issues relevant to Singapore.

[What you will be working on]

You will be part of the Labour Market and Research Division within the Economic Policy Group of the MAS undertaking in-depth analysis on macroeconomic and financial issues relevant to Singapore.  You will participate in teams conducting policy-oriented research as well as surveillance and assessment of global and domestic economic developments. This role requires the ability to apply sound conceptual frameworks, econometric methods and appropriate AI-enabled analytical tools to policy analysis, while exercising sound professional judgement. You will have the opportunity to provide research-based policy advice to MAS management, brief policymakers on your research and engage with visiting academics.

[What we are looking for]

• PhD or (Research) Master’s degree in Economics or a closely related field

• A background in theoretical and empirical macroeconomics, as well as a good understanding of Singapore’s economic policy context

• Substantial experience in quantitative economic or financial analysis, and a proven track record of conducting independent research

• Good writing and presentation skills in English, as well as good interpersonal skills

• A strong interest in contributing to public policymaking in Singapore

• Programming skills in one or more of the following languages or software packages: EViews, MATLAB, Stata, Python or R

You will be working in a fast-paced environment that would require the ability to manage multiple priorities and needs of stakeholders, as well as the agility to respond to changes and developments.

This is a 1-year contract position with an option to extend for another year. As part of the shortlisting process for this role, you may be required to complete a medical declaration and/or undergo further assessment.
