A Day in the Life

This position supports Medtronic's Supply Chain organization and is responsible for managing material planning and procurement activities to ensure uninterrupted supply in support of manufacturing and customer requirements. The Buyer/Planner serves as a key liaison between suppliers and internal stakeholders, partnering closely with Manufacturing, Strategic Sourcing, Quality, Engineering, Distribution, and Operations teams to maintain material availability, optimize inventory levels, and support business objectives.

During the first 3 to 6 months, the successful candidate will be expected to:

-Assume ownership of assigned commodities, suppliers, and material portfolios.
-Manage purchase requisitions and purchase orders to ensure timely material availability and supplier delivery performance.
-Monitor supply and demand requirements, proactively identifying and mitigating shortages, capacity constraints, and supply risks.
-Analyze inventory trends and planning parameters to support inventory optimization while maintaining target service levels.
-Collaborate with suppliers and cross-functional teams to resolve material availability issues, expedite critical shipments, and drive corrective actions when needed.
-Maintain accurate master data and transactional records within ERP systems to support effective planning and procurement execution.
-Support continuous improvement initiatives that enhance operational efficiency, inventory performance, and continuity of supply.

Job Summary

The Buyer Planner II is responsible for sourcing, purchasing, planning, and scheduling materials and services required to support manufacturing operations and meet customer demand. This role serves as a key link between suppliers, production, engineering, warehouse, and other cross-functional teams to ensure the timely availability of materials while optimizing inventory levels, cost, quality, and service.

Experience with ERP systems such as SAP, demand and supply planning processes, and supplier relationship management is highly desirable. Key Responsibilities

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

• Source, purchase, plan, and schedule the movement of raw materials, packaging materials, components, services, supplies, finished goods, and related materials throughout the production and inventory management process.

• Analyze production schedules, inventory levels, forecasts, and material requirements to ensure uninterrupted manufacturing operations.

• Identify raw material, component, and service requirements from engineering specifications, production schedules, and customer demand plans.

• Execute procurement activities by evaluating supplier performance, lead times, pricing, and capacity to ensure the lowest total cost while maintaining quality, reliability, and delivery requirements.

• Coordinate closely with Production, Warehouse, Engineering, Quality, and Supplier partners to ensure appropriate procurement, scheduling, and movement of materials and services.

• Monitor inventory levels and planning parameters, recommending actions to optimize inventory investment while supporting customer service targets.

• Compile and analyze information on pricing trends, supplier market conditions, and manufacturing processes to support sourcing decisions.

• Support demand and supply planning activities through data analysis, forecast review, and capacity planning.

• Monitor supplier delivery performance, resolve supply issues, and collaborate with suppliers to improve responsiveness and service levels.

• Utilize ERP systems, including SAP or equivalent platforms, to manage purchase orders, planning parameters, inventory transactions, and material requirements planning (MRP).

• Identify opportunities for process improvements and implement solutions that enhance operational efficiency, inventory management, and supplier performance.

• Participate in cross-functional projects and continuous improvement initiatives supporting supply chain and manufacturing objectives.

• Ensure compliance with company policies, quality standards, and applicable regulatory requirements.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain Management, Business Administration, Engineering, Operations Management, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

• Minimum of 2 years of relevant experience in purchasing, materials planning, supply chain, manufacturing, or operations.

• Experience working in a manufacturing environment.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret and leverage data for decision-making.

• Experience using ERP systems, preferably SAP.

• Knowledge of inventory management, procurement, demand planning, and supply planning processes.

• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and other business applications.

• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• APICS/ASCM certification (CPIM, CSCP) or equivalent supply chain certification.

• Experience with supplier relationship management and supplier performance monitoring.

• Knowledge of Lean Manufacturing, Continuous Improvement, or Six Sigma methodologies.

• Experience supporting regulated manufacturing environments such as medical device, pharmaceutical, automotive, or electronics manufacturing.

• Advanced SAP planning and procurement experience.
