Job Description Summary
Adjunct Instructors are responsible for the facilitation of student learning and the ongoing development and delivery of instructional strategies that promote student success.

The Adjunct Instructor – CPR/First Aid will deliver American Heart Association (AHA) courses in accordance with current AHA curriculum, guidelines, and Training Center requirements. Responsibilities include facilitating course content and video presentations, providing instruction, demonstrating skills, administering written examinations and skills testing, responding to student questions, and accurately completing required course documentation and rosters.

This position may require travel to various Fox Valley Technical College locations, employer sites, or other approved training locations. As a course-based adjunct position, instructors have flexibility to identify their availability for teaching assignments.

Job Description

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are primarily performed and are essential for this position.  Employees are expected to be able to perform each of these job duties satisfactorily and successfully to be qualified for the position.  Other duties may be required and assigned.

Learning Facilitation – Foster student learning by utilizing appropriate instructional strategies to meet diverse student needs and promote engagement. Deliver American Heart Association courses using approved curriculum, instructional materials, technologies, and teaching methodologies.

AHA Course Instruction – Deliver assigned AHA courses in accordance with current AHA guidelines, curriculum, course requirements, and Fox Valley Technical College AHA Training Center expectations. Facilitate required course content and video presentations, provide instruction and demonstrations, answer student questions, and appropriately supervise hands-on skills practice.

Assessment & Skills Evaluation – Assess student learning through AHA-required written examinations, skills evaluations, and other applicable assessment methods. Provide appropriate feedback and determine successful completion based upon established AHA course requirements.

Classroom & Training Environment Management – Fulfill assigned teaching schedules and maintain an instructional environment that emphasizes student safety, engagement, housekeeping, and appropriate care and security of instructional equipment. Ensure required course materials and equipment are available and appropriately prepared for instruction.

Course Documentation – Accurately and timely complete required AHA and FVTC documentation, including course rosters, student evaluations, skills testing documentation, examination records, and other required post-course materials.

AHA Compliance – Maintain compliance with current American Heart Association guidelines, curriculum requirements, instructor standards, Training Center policies, and applicable FVTC procedures.

Team Participation – Collaborate with the FVTC AHA Training Center Coordinator, College staff, fellow instructors, and applicable departments to support effective course delivery and Training Center operations.

Business & Community Engagement – Provide professional instruction and service to students, employers, healthcare organizations, public safety agencies, community partners, and other organizations utilizing FVTC AHA training. Represent Fox Valley Technical College and the AHA Training Center professionally during on-campus and off-site instruction.

Student Success & Support – Support students in successfully developing and demonstrating required CPR, First Aid, BLS, ACLS, PALS, or other applicable AHA knowledge and skills. Provide clear instruction, coaching, feedback, and remediation consistent with applicable AHA guidelines.

Professional Development – Maintain current knowledge and skills related to AHA guidelines, instructional practices, emergency cardiovascular care, course technologies, and applicable Training Center requirements. Complete required AHA instructor updates, training, and professional development activities.

Non-Essential Functions and Responsibilities

The following duties are not critical to the core purpose of the position but may occasionally be performed to support team, departmental, Training Center, or College operations. These duties are secondary or infrequent and provide flexibility for the role.

Participate in applicable AHA Training Center meetings, instructor updates, training sessions, and College team meetings.

Assist with course preparation, equipment setup, cleanup, and organization as needed.

Assist during periods of increased course demand or other peak training periods.

Perform minor administrative tasks associated with AHA course delivery and documentation.

-
Demonstrate flexibility in teaching assignments, including potential instruction during daytime, evening, weekend, or summer hours and at off-campus locations as needed.

Assist with routine inspection, cleaning, organization, and care of classroom and AHA training equipment to support safe and effective instructional use.

Assist in organizing or supporting AHA-related training events, community education activities, or other initiatives that enhance student engagement and visibility of FVTC's AHA Training Center.

Perform other duties as assigned that support the mission of Fox Valley Technical College and the successful operation of the FVTC American Heart Association Training Center.

Minimum Qualifications

Education/Experience Requirements

High School Diploma is required (Associate's Degree or higher is preferred).

One or more years of teaching or instructional experience preferred.

Must be a current American Heart Association Instructor (American Red Cross instructor certification does not satisfy this requirement).

In evaluating candidates for this position, Fox Valley Technical College may consider an exception to the education and experience requirements in the event of emergency staffing situations, pending credentials, specialized expertise or renowned qualifications of candidate, emerging fields, or lack of candidate availability.  Exceptions must be approved by the Vice President of Learning/Chief Academic Officer.

Licenses, Certifications, and Other Requirements

Valid American Heart Association (AHA) Instructor certification in one or more applicable disciplines, including:

Basic Life Support (BLS)

Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS)

Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS)

Other AHA disciplines as applicable to assigned courses

Must maintain current AHA Instructor status and meet applicable AHA instructor and Training Center requirements.

Must be certified through the American Heart Association; American Red Cross instructor certification does not satisfy this requirement.

Proficiency utilizing applicable instructional technology and learning management systems.

Strong verbal and written communication skills.

Ability to effectively demonstrate, observe, evaluate, and provide feedback regarding hands-on CPR and emergency cardiovascular care skills.

Ability to adapt quickly to changing demands, assignments, locations, and circumstances to meet student and instructional needs.

Ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, employees, employers, healthcare professionals, pu
