ABOUT THE COMPANY

OUR CLIENT IS A TECHNOLOGY COMPANY FOCUSED ON IMPROVING INDOOR AIR QUALITY AND BUILDING PERFORMANCE THROUGH CONNECTED ENVIRONMENTAL MONITORING SOLUTIONS. THEIR PRODUCTS COMBINE SMART SENSORS, CLOUD-BASED ANALYTICS, AND BUILDING MANAGEMENT SYSTEM INTEGRATIONS TO HELP COMMERCIAL BUILDINGS IMPROVE AIR QUALITY, OPTIMIZE HVAC OPERATIONS, REDUCE ENERGY CONSUMPTION, AND SUPPORT HEALTHY-BUILDING CERTIFICATIONS.

THEIR SOLUTIONS ARE DESIGNED FOR ENTERPRISE AND COMMERCIAL ENVIRONMENTS, INCLUDING LARGE-SCALE BUILDING PORTFOLIOS, AND INTEGRATE WITH EXISTING BUILDING SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS.

ABOUT THE ROLE

We are looking for a Field Deployment Manager – Technical Solutions to lead the successful deployment of connected building technology across commercial properties while providing hands-on technical support for complex deployment and customer issues.

This is primarily a project ownership and deployment management role, with a strong technical component. You will manage deployments from pre-installation planning through final go-live, coordinating third-party installers, contractors, client IT teams, facilities teams, and other stakeholders.

Approximately 20% of the role may involve technical support and ticketing, focused primarily on issues that require genuine troubleshooting depth rather than routine support. Basic knowledge-base lookups, simple backend provisioning, and other straightforward requests will be handled internally.

You will not be responsible for performing physical installation work yourself. However, you should have enough hands-on technical knowledge to understand how connected building systems are deployed, diagnose issues, and confidently direct contractors or customer teams through on-site troubleshooting.

The ideal candidate combines technical depth with strong project ownership, business acumen, and customer-facing communication skills. You should be comfortable working with enterprise customers and taking ownership of problems from initial investigation through resolution.

RESPONSIBILITIES

DEPLOYMENT & PROJECT OWNERSHIP

  • Own end-to-end deployment projects from pre-installation planning through final go-live.
  • Review building plans, floor plans, and construction drawings to determine appropriate device and gateway placement.
  • Coordinate third-party installers, low-voltage contractors, general contractors, client IT teams, facility teams, and other stakeholders.
  • Confirm site prerequisites are completed before installation begins.
  • Track device quantities, installation progress, logistics, dependencies, risks, and project milestones.
  • Identify potential deployment risks early and proactively develop solutions.
  • Provide technical direction to contractors and resolve deployment blockers.
  • Ensure projects remain organized, documented, and on track through completion.
  • Take ownership of issues beyond the minimum requirements when needed to ensure successful deployment.
  • Maintain clear project documentation, status updates, deployment records, and stakeholder communications.

TECHNICAL DEPLOYMENT & TROUBLESHOOTING

  • Verify device installation, connectivity, configuration, and data reporting.
  • Troubleshoot practical networking issues involving IP addressing, DHCP/DNS, VLANs, firewall rules, ports, proxies, and connectivity.
  • Coordinate with customer network administrators to resolve network admission and access requirements.
  • Troubleshoot issues involving connected devices, gateways, sensors, cloud connectivity, and BMS integrations.
  • Determine whether deployment issues originate from the device, network, BMS, installation, or integration layer.
  • Remotely troubleshoot field issues and confidently guide contractors or customer teams through on-site resolution.
  • Ensure deployed devices are reliably connected and reporting clean data to the cloud or BMS.
  • Support technical escalations that require deeper troubleshooting beyond basic support.

TECHNICAL SUPPORT & CUSTOMER ISSUES

  • Spend approximately 20% of your time supporting technically complex customer issues and tickets.
  • Investigate and resolve tickets that require genuine troubleshooting expertise.
  • Support enterprise customers with BMS, networking, device, connectivity, and integration-related issues.
  • Diagnose BACnet communication, point discovery, mapping, and data-quality issues when applicable.
  • Investigate issues involving DHCP/DNS, VLANs, firewalls, ports, proxies, SSL inspection, and NTP.
  • Work across customer support, deployment, engineering, sales, and customer success teams to resolve complex issues.
  • Escalate issues to engineering only when product-level intervention is required.
  • Document troubleshooting processes, solutions, and recurring technical issues for internal knowledge sharing.

CUSTOMER & STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT

  • Act as a key technical and project-facing contact throughout deployments.
  • Communicate clearly with enterprise customers, contractors, IT teams, facilities teams, and internal stakeholders.
  • Translate technical problems into clear business and operational impacts.
  • Set expectations around timelines, dependencies, risks, and resolutions.
  • Balance technical requirements with customer priorities, project timelines, and business objectives.
  • Build trust with customers through clear communication, ownership, and follow-through.
  • Support internal teams with technical context during customer discussions when required.

COMPETENCIES AND QUALIFICATIONS
MUST-HAVE

  • 3+ years of experience managing or deploying physical technology in commercial buildings, such as IoT, low-voltage, security, AV, telecom, BMS, HVAC controls, building automation, or similar technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience owning projects from planning through completion, not only performing field installation tasks.
  • Strong ability to read and interpret floor plans, building plans, and construction drawings.
  • Practical IP networking knowledge, including:
  • IP addressing
  • DHCP/DNS
  • VLANs
  • Firewall rules
  • Ports
  • Network connectivity
  • Experience coordinating third-party contractors, installers, field service teams, or vendors.
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues independently and guide others through remote/on-site troubleshooting.
  • Strong project coordination, organization, and execution skills.
  • Strong customer-facing communication skills.
  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders, including enterprise customers, contractors, IT teams, facilities teams, and internal technical teams.
  • Demonstrated business acumen and ability to understand the customer/business impact of technical issues.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to take ownership of problems through resolution rather than simply escalating them.

Nice-to-Have

  • Experience with BMS, HVAC controls, or building automation.
  • Strong understanding of BACnet/BACnet IP.
  • Experience with Modbus or other building protocols.
  • Experience deploying IoT or connected-building technologies.
  • Experience with enterprise or large-scale commercial building deployments.
  • Experience working with general contractors or low-voltage contractors.
  • Experience with cloud-connected hardware, sensors, gateways, or environmental monitoring systems.
  • Experience troubleshooting SaaS/IoT products.
  • Experience supporting enterprise customers or Fortune 1000 organizations.
  • Experience with technical support ticketing systems such as Zendesk, HubSpot, ServiceNow, or similar.
  • Experience with Niagara/Tridium or major BMS platforms such as Schneider Electric, Honeywell, Johnson Controls, Delta Controls, Distech, Siemens, Trane, or Carrier.
  • Familiarity with security questionnaires and enterprise IT requirements.
  • Exposure to Wi-Fi constraints, LoRaWAN gateways, cellular connectivity, PoE, or o
