The Role

The Senior Engineer, Perception/Vision is part of a multi-disciplinary engineering team that leads and executes camera and sensing based R&D.  This will be used to provide physical AI solutions.  The Senior Engineer, Perception/Vision reports to the Director of NPD Innovation and Incubation also located in Atlanta, GA.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities

• Part of a multi-disciplinary group of engineers to develop innovative HW solutions related to advanced sensing and vision

• Work closely with Product Management to understand the customer needs and deliver solutions that meet those needs

• Promote a culture of learning, innovation and utilize tools for ideation

• Evaluate technical feasibility of new ideas and guide engineering trade offs

• Evaluate potential solutions for compatibility with system requirements by working across teams and cultures

• Convert ideas, technologies, and insights from concepts into commercialized solutions that align to customer needs

• Develop IP for AutoStore

• Ability to “fail-fast” and create Proof of Concept solutions that can be used to validate technical feasibility, customer need, and business viability

• Build relationships tech partners

Key Qualifications

• 5-15 years of experience in delivering camera and sensing solutions for customers (areas of relevance IoT, electronics, embedded systems, advanced sensing, vision, AI & physical AI, etc)

• Experience specifying optical hardware including lenses, image sensors, and machine vision lighting; experience optimizing exposure, color grading, white balance, gamma, bit depth, triggering/synchronization, and other fundamental digital photography and image signal processing (ISP) concepts.

• Experience building processes to calibrate complex optical hardware at the factory (intrinsic/extrinsic camera calibration, OpenCV or similar toolchains) and to assess proper calibration in the field.

• Experience with systems that create 3D structure or depth information from multiple cameras using stereo vision, structure from motion (SfM), structured light, time-of-flight (ToF), LiDAR, or other 3D sensing technologies; familiarity with point cloud processing (PCL, Gaussian Splatting, or other tools) and photogrammetry a plus.

• Experience integrating feedback from software teams that use your hardware as inputs to machine vision and deep learning applications, such as segmentation, classification, bounding volume estimation, 3D model generation, or 6D pose estimation/registration.

• Considered an expert in advanced sensing and vision with a history of delivering products to market

• Familiar with design tools, processes and techniques to deliver solutions on schedule

• Bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant engineering discipline (or equivalent experience)

Preferred Qualifications

• As a cross-functional team, our engineers have opportunities to work on adjacent aspects of new products.

• Experience with board-level electronics design or debugging.

• Experience with warehouse automation sensors including barcode/QR scanners, radio frequency technologies (RFID, NFC, etc), or common industrial protocols (e.g., EtherCAT, PROFINET) for high bandwidth equipment communication.

• Experience with on-premises computer networking and high-bandwidth image/video data storage.

• Experience configuring or administrating Linux systems, especially edge AI/inference hardware (NVIDIA Jetson, etc).

• Familiarity with cloud pipelines to process, annotate, or clean data.
