Engineering Operations

• Assist the Chief Engineer in the daily management and operation of the Engineering Department.
• Ensure the smooth operation and maintenance of all hotel engineering systems, plant, machinery, equipment, buildings, guest rooms, public areas, back-of-house areas, and external facilities.
• Monitor the condition and performance of electrical, mechanical, plumbing, HVAC, refrigeration, water treatment, fire and life-safety systems, and other technical installations.
• Respond promptly to engineering breakdowns and operational issues.
• Ensure guest rooms and public areas are maintained to the required technical and presentation standards.
• Coordinate engineering support for hotel events, functions, meetings, and special activities.

2. Preventive & Corrective Maintenance

• Implement and monitor the hotel's preventive maintenance programme.
• Ensure planned maintenance is completed on time and properly documented.
• Conduct regular inspections of equipment, plant rooms, guest rooms, public areas, and facilities to identify potential problems before they affect operations.
• Coordinate corrective maintenance and ensure breakdowns are resolved efficiently.
• Maintain accurate engineering records, maintenance logs, checklists, and equipment histories.
• Follow up on outstanding maintenance issues and ensure timely closure.

3. Team Supervision

• Assist in supervising, training, and developing Engineering Department colleagues.
• Allocate daily tasks and monitor work progress to ensure priorities are addressed.
• Promote teamwork, discipline, accountability, and a strong safety culture.
• Provide technical guidance and support to engineering colleagues.
• Assist with departmental briefings, meetings, performance discussions, and training programmes.
• Ensure colleagues follow hotel policies, procedures, grooming standards, and health and safety requirements.

4. Energy & Utilities Management

• Assist in monitoring and controlling the resort's consumption of electricity, water, fuel, and other utilities.
• Identify opportunities to improve energy efficiency and reduce operational costs without compromising guest comfort.
• Monitor utility consumption and investigate unusual increases or discrepancies.
• Support sustainability and environmental initiatives implemented by the resort.
• Ensure equipment is operated efficiently and within recommended parameters.

5. Health, Safety & Compliance

• Ensure engineering activities comply with applicable Seychelles legislation, health and safety requirements, fire and life-safety standards, and hotel policies.
• Conduct regular inspections of technical areas and identify potential safety hazards.
• Ensure fire protection, emergency systems, generators, electrical installations, lifts, water systems, and other critical equipment are maintained and tested as required.
• Maintain appropriate records and documentation for inspections, testing, certifications, and statutory requirements.
• Assist during emergency situations and participate in the resort's emergency response procedures.
• Ensure all engineering colleagues use appropriate personal protective equipment and follow safe working practices.

6. Contractors & External Service Providers

• Assist the Chief Engineer in managing external contractors and service providers.
• Coordinate scheduled servicing, inspections, repairs, and specialist works.
• Ensure contractors comply with hotel safety procedures and work permit requirements.
• Monitor the quality and progress of contracted works.
• Verify completed works and report any deficiencies to the Chief Engineer.
• Assist with reviewing quotations and technical proposals where required.

7. Projects & Renovations

• Support the Chief Engineer with engineering projects, renovations, upgrades, and refurbishment works.
• Coordinate with contractors and other departments to minimise disruption to guests and hotel operations.
• Monitor project progress and report technical issues or delays.
• Assist with commissioning, testing, and handover of new equipment and systems.

8. Inventory & Cost Control

• Assist with the management of engineering spare parts, tools, equipment, and consumables.
• Maintain appropriate stock levels and ensure proper storage and control of engineering materials.
• Support purchasing activities and obtain quotations when required.
• Monitor departmental expenses and contribute to effective cost control.
• Ensure tools and equipment are properly maintained and accounted for.

9. Guest & Operational Support

• Respond professionally and promptly to engineering-related guest requests and complaints.
• Work closely with Front Office, Housekeeping, Food & Beverage, Security, and other departments to resolve technical issues.
• Ensure engineering concerns affecting guest satisfaction are given appropriate priority.
• Maintain a strong focus on guest comfort, safety, and overall resort experience.

10. Communication & Reporting

• Maintain effective communication with the Chief Engineer and hotel management.
• Provide regular updates on breakdowns, maintenance activities, projects, energy consumption, and outstanding issues.
• Prepare or contribute to engineering reports, maintenance schedules, and operational records.
• Ensure important technical information is communicated effectively during shift handovers and departmental meetings.

• Diploma, Advanced Diploma, or Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Building Services, or a related technical field.

• Minimum 3–5 years of engineering experience within a hotel or resort environment , preferably in a supervisory or senior engineering position.

• Experience in a luxury hotel, resort, or international hospitality environment is an advantage.

• Strong knowledge of hotel engineering systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, refrigeration, generators, pumps, water systems, and life-safety systems.

• Experience with preventive maintenance programmes and maintenance management systems.

• Knowledge of health, safety, fire and life-safety requirements.

• Experience supervising and developing a technical team.

• Good contractor and project management skills.

• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.

• Good computer skills and the ability to maintain accurate technical records.

• Good command of English; knowledge of French and/or Creole is an advantage.
