Citi Commercial Bank provides global and local banking capabilities and services to emerging and mid-sized corporations worldwide. The position is located in Prague and provides a great opportunity to leverage interpersonal and relationship management skills in a professional environment while working with internal and external clients in Western Europe and the UK.

Credit Analyst is a developing professional role that supports the growth of the bank by analyzing transactions to ensure they meet the risk and return goals of the business. The candidate is expected to deal with most problems independently and has some latitude to solve complex problems. The role integrates in-depth specialty area knowledge, a solid understanding of industry standards and practices, and analytical thinking and knowledge of data analysis tools and methodologies.

Candidates will be offered the support they need for their growth through structured training programs and continuous guidance from senior Underwriters, enabling them initially to participate in, and ultimately lead, credit due diligence with clients.

Job Purpose and Main Responsibilities

  • Work alongside Underwriters and Relationship Managers in structuring and analyzing various types of credit requests.
  • Spread financial statements in accordance with the guidelines and internal systems.
  • Produce credit analysis memos performing financial analysis, identifying key credit strengths, risks, and mitigants to provide a comprehensive foundation for risk-return decision-making.
  • Provide analysis of simple to medium complexity credits, and coordinate with Underwriters, Risk partners, and Relationship Managers. Present credit analysis to senior stakeholders and effectively answer questions when challenged.
  • Prepare simple financial projections and assess repayment capacity of clients.
  • Conduct ongoing Early Warning (EW) monitoring and prepare periodic credit reviews for a portfolio of clients within the required turnaround time (TAT) and within agreed-upon CLM pipeline rules.
  • Stay abreast of developments within the global economy and designated industries to support EW monitoring.
  • Work with colleagues globally to offer credit solutions to international subsidiaries understanding local market requirements.
  • Maintain compliance with Citibank credit policies / practices and regulatory policies, to ensure the business unit is in adherence and receives satisfactory ratings from internal and external auditors.
  • Provide leadership, training, and coaching to junior Credit Analysts in the team.
  • Exercise delegated personal Credit Officer (CO) Limit to make sound, risk-balanced credit decisions in alignment with established policies, procedures and guidelines.
  • Maintain in-depth knowledge of all applicable local and global credit policies, procedures and guidelines. Be compliant and accountable for adherence to them. Act as a keeper of best practices, sharing and promoting them to actively cultivate the internal environment (Sales and CLM). Be ready to align and coordinate across the European clusters (CE4, Western Europe, the UK).

Further Key Responsibilities

  • Participate in CLM tasks and requirements such as round tables, quarterly financial/covenant checks, regular and ad-hoc reporting, portfolio stress testing, audits, etc.
  • Communicate efficiently across the bank (Sales, Risk, Dox, Collateral, Credit Enablement, Legal, Operations, EW, and others).
  • Provide credit advice to more junior colleagues in CLM and Sales teams to build credit awareness and risk recognition in the bank and cultivate the lending management process.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality on all accounts, bank products and policies.

Qualifications and Competencies

  • University degree.
  • At least 2 years of relevant banking experience in credit analysis, relationship management, EW, loan remedial management, or corporate underwriting.
  • Solid knowledge of financial statement analysis and accounting principles, primarily IFRS EU accounting standards.
  • Good understanding of bank products, collateral types, loan documentation standards, financial and non-financial covenants.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Proficiency in another language (German, Italian, Spanish, or French) would be an advantage.
  • A self-organized person with the ability to pay attention to detail and work under pressure.
  • Strong analytical thinking, a balanced risk-business approach, and the ability to apply common sense and make fast and competent decisions.
  • A team player who is a fast learner, flexible, precise, and has a positive attitude.
  • PC skills (MS Office) and a willingness to learn specific systems used within the Credit Approval area, and various internal AI tools.
