Position Overview

The A4 415V Chargeman is responsible for the safe operation, maintenance, and management of the low voltage electrical systems and associated infrastructure for a 460,000 square foot banking facility in Kuala Lumpur. This critical role ensures continuous, reliable power distribution to support essential banking operations, data centers, and business continuity requirements while maintaining strict compliance with all electrical safety regulations and the highest standards of safety for building occupants and electrical systems.

Key Responsibilities

Low Voltage Electrical System Management

Operate, monitor, and maintain the 415V low voltage electrical distribution system in accordance with Energy Commission (Suruhanjaya Tenaga) regulations and electrical safety standards. Perform switching operations for main distribution boards, sub-main distribution boards, final distribution boards, and associated electrical equipment with particular attention to critical banking infrastructure. Conduct routine inspections of low voltage switchboards, distribution panels, circuit breakers, contactors, motor control centers, and associated equipment to ensure zero downtime for critical banking operations. Monitor electrical load distribution across the extensive 460,000 sq ft facility and optimize power consumption, with special focus on mission-critical areas including data centers, server rooms, dealing rooms, ATM networks, and core banking systems. Ensure all electrical rooms, distribution boards, and electrical installations are properly secured, maintained, and accessible only to authorized personnel in compliance with banking security protocols. Maintain continuous power supply through effective monitoring and preventive maintenance programs, recognizing that power interruptions directly impact banking transactions and customer service. Oversee electrical distribution to multiple floors, zones, and departments within the large-scale banking facility.

Critical Infrastructure Power Management

Provide dedicated electrical support for mission-critical banking infrastructure including data centers, server rooms, mainframe systems, network equipment rooms, dealing rooms, and disaster recovery facilities. Ensure proper power distribution to UPS-protected critical loads supporting 24/7 banking operations. Monitor and maintain electrical circuits feeding critical banking equipment, ensuring adequate capacity and redundancy. Coordinate closely with IT teams to understand power requirements for banking systems and ensure electrical infrastructure meets load demands. Manage power distribution to trading floors, dealing rooms, cash processing centers, and time-sensitive banking operations where power reliability is paramount. Support electrical requirements for extensive security systems including CCTV, access control, intrusion detection, and perimeter security across the 460,000 sq ft facility. Maintain electrical supply to critical life safety systems including fire alarm panels, emergency lighting, exit signage, and evacuation systems. Monitor electrical parameters including voltage levels, current draw, power factor, and harmonics to ensure quality power supply to sensitive banking equipment.

Electrical Maintenance and Preventive Maintenance Programs

Develop and implement comprehensive preventive maintenance schedules for all low voltage electrical systems across the facility with minimal disruption to banking operations. Conduct regular testing and inspection of electrical equipment including distribution boards, circuit breakers, contactors, motor starters, lighting systems, power outlets, and emergency systems during approved maintenance windows. Perform thermographic scanning to identify potential hot spots, loose connections, and electrical faults before failures occur, scheduling interventions proactively. Test and maintain motor control centers serving HVAC systems, water pumps, fire pumps, lifts, and other building services critical to facility operations. Conduct electrical safety testing including insulation resistance testing, earth resistance testing, and residual current device (RCD) testing. Maintain lighting systems throughout the facility including general lighting, emergency lighting, exit lighting, and specialized lighting for banking halls and customer service areas. Coordinate and supervise external contractors performing specialized electrical works or maintenance activities, ensuring compliance with bank security clearance requirements. Maintain electrical equipment in optimal operating condition to minimize downtime and extend equipment lifespan, particularly for systems supporting critical banking functions. Carry out corrective maintenance and repairs on electrical systems promptly to restore normal operations, escalating issues that may impact business operations immediately. Ensure all electrical installations comply with relevant standards including MS IEC, Suruhanjaya Tenaga regulations, and bank-specific technical standards. Schedule major maintenance activities during non-business hours or designated maintenance windows to avoid disruption to banking services across the large facility.

Building Services Electrical Systems

Manage electrical supply to HVAC systems including air handling units (AHUs), fan coil units (FCUs), chillers, cooling towers, and associated control systems essential for maintaining comfortable banking environment. Maintain electrical systems for water supply pumps, sewage pumps, sump pumps, fire pumps, and plumbing infrastructure. Oversee electrical supply to vertical transportation systems including passenger lifts, service lifts, and escalators serving multiple floors. Monitor and maintain electrical systems for building automation and controls that manage facility operations. Ensure proper electrical supply to kitchen equipment, pantry facilities, staff amenities, and cafeteria areas. Manage power distribution to specialized banking equipment including note counters, coin machines, vault systems, and safe deposit box facilities. Maintain electrical supply to loading dock equipment, roller shutters, and service areas. Coordinate with building services teams to ensure integrated operation of all electrical and mechanical systems.

Safety and Compliance

Ensure strict compliance with all Suruhanjaya Tenaga regulations, guidelines, and safety requirements for low voltage installations. Maintain a valid Certificate of Competency (Chargeman A4) and ensure all electrical work complies with certification requirements and banking industry standards. Implement and enforce electrical safety procedures, lockout/tagout protocols, and permit-to-work systems in accordance with bank safety policies. Conduct risk assessments for electrical work and ensure appropriate safety measures are in place, particularly when working near sensitive banking equipment or in occupied areas. Maintain electrical safety equipment including insulated tools, personal protective equipment, voltage detectors, multimeters, clamp meters, earth testers, and testing equipment in good working condition.
