PGE is hiring a Senior Transmission & Distribution Standards Engineer(P3)/Transmission & Distribution Standards Engineer(P2).

This position will report to the Standards Engineering team, based in Portland, Oregon, and utilize engineering expertise to support PGE’s transmission and distribution design and construction standards. In this role you will help to continually improve external stakeholder and customer experience by updating standards to ensure alignment with compliance standards, industry best practices and internal operational needs. You will support material failure analysis along with supplier qualifications and assessments. Assignments will relate to transmission and distribution standards, including overhead/underground distribution design, construction practices and materials, transmission line design, construction practices and materials, transmission and distribution construction tools, smart grid design and construction standards and equipment specifications.

Engineering Standards

P2/P3

  • Applies knowledge of transmission and design standards, including overhead/underground distribution design, construction practices and materials, design tools, techniques, regulatory requirements and applicable state and federal codes.

P3

  • Provides technical guidance and support to other engineers or third-party contractors.

Engineering Production

P2

  • Prepares a variety of moderately complex engineering deliverables; leads smaller project teams.
  • Develops engineering solutions that meet technical requirements, all applicable codes, regulatory requirements and follow sound engineering practice.
  • Completes a range of overhead or underground material and equipment specifications. Updates existing standards and work practices.
  • Revises and implements underground material and equipment specifications, participates in standards review meetings and obtains input and technical data from various technical stakeholders.

P3

  • Prepares a variety of complex engineering deliverables for larger or multiple projects; coordinates multiple discipline activity.
  • Develops and provides quality assurance reviews of engineering solutions that meet technical requirements, all applicable codes, regulatory requirements and follow sound engineering practice.
  • Analyzes and completes complex overhead or underground material and equipment specifications and studies, providing data and recommendations technical matters to management; manages complex transmission and design projects. Creates new standards and work practices.
  • Develops, revises and implements underground material and equipment specifications, leads standards review meetings and obtains input and technical data from various technical stakeholders, leads development of complex standards and provides technical support and guidance to less experienced colleagues; determines requirements for T&D projects and determines project requirements and scope.

Project Coordination

P2

  • Assigns tasks and coordinates with other internal/external team members on assigned projects; shares information and provides professional guidance in executing project tasks.
  • Provides engineering expertise to T&D standards projects with complex design, construction, operation, maintenance or testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs; contributes to capital budget and job estimates.

P3

  • Actively coordinates with other internal/external team members on moderately complex projects, including representing the team to interdepartmental and external (regulatory) stakeholders.
  • Plans, develops and coordinates T&D standards projects with complex design, construction, operation, maintenance or testing elements in support of engineering and construction needs; provides accurate capital budget and job estimates.  Considers supply chain impacts.

Knowledge Sharing

  • Shares current knowledge of latest technology and processes; may assist with mentoring, recognition and any corrective actions required.
  • Trains designers, field technicians and less experienced colleagues on new T&D standards.

P3

  • Serves as a technical specialist and provides consultation/guidance to project teams in a particular practice area; actively fosters knowledge management and provides mentoring; implements resource management strategy.
  • Develops training content on new design standards; trains designers, field technicians and less experienced colleagues on new T&D standards; provides technical training to department and company through internal training program.

This opportunity is posted at two levels: Senior Standards Engineer (P3) and Standards Engineer (P2). The level offered will be determined based on the successful candidate's qualifications and applicable experience.

Education/Experience/Certifications

P2 Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering or related field. ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.

P2 Experience: Typically two or more years in engineering.

P2 Certifications, Licenses and Training: Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.

P3 Education: Requires a bachelor’s degree in electrical, mechanical or civil engineering or related field. ABET-accredited engineering program or program accredited by an equivalent agency preferred.

P3 Experience: Typically five or more years in engineering, or four or more years in related field with PE license.

P3 Certifications, Licenses and Training: Professional Engineering (PE) license strongly preferred; may be required based upon role.
