Company Overview

Metrea delivers effects-as-a-service to national security partners across five domains and more than a dozen mission areas. These include airborne ISR, electronic warfare, secure communications, aerial refueling, special air missions, aerial firefighting, and advanced simulation. We own the whole stack: designing, building, and operating turnkey capabilities that give our partners decisive, asymmetric advantage against rapidly evolving threats.

Our operating model is built around three interlocking pillars. The Support Groups provide a global shared-service – spanning people, finance, platform, operations, legal, and engagement. This frees up our Core Groups, who develop and own mission capabilities end-to-end, to focus entirely on delivery. The Market Groups apply a regional lens, ensuring that our agile and adaptable capabilities remain aligned to the wicked problems that matter most to our partners across the Americas, EMEA, and Asia-Pacific.

At the heart of our model is a simple but powerful idea: be a true partner with skin in the game. Our partners need effects, not just equipment. By owning the full stack – from the lab to the field – we are able to drive a continuous cycle of innovation that keeps our partners ahead. It's a fast-moving, intellectually demanding environment where talented people are given real responsibility, work on problems that matter, and contribute to an enterprise that is growing quickly and deliberately.

Headquartered in Washington, DC, with facilities across the United States, the United Kingdom, as well as Continental Europe and Asia-Pacific.

Group Overview

Metrea delivers effects-as-a-service to national security partners across five domains and more than a dozen mission areas, including airborne ISR, electronic warfare, secure communications, aerial refuelling, special mission aviation, aerial firefighting, and advanced simulation.

Metrea is actively building its presence in Australia as part of a deliberate, globally coordinated expansion into the Asia-Pacific region. Our Asia-Pacific Market Group, headquartered in Brisbane with an additional office in Perth, is the enterprise's dedicated regional interface, connecting Australia's national security community with Metrea's full suite of capabilities across three core domains: Aerospace, Electromagnetic & Cyber, and Digital & Synthetic. Metrea is now bringing that same depth of mission expertise and proven operating model to Australia.

Underpinning these capabilities is a global network of Support Groups spanning people, finance, platform, operations, legal, and engagement, ensuring that as we grow in Australia, we do so with the full weight of an established global enterprise behind us.

Metrea's solutions are built for elegance: effective, efficient, and evolving, enabling our partners to scale capacity and achieve asymmetric advantage against rapidly evolving threats.

Position Summary

In this role, you will lead and coordinate work health and safety (WHS) and environmental management across Metrea's Australian sites. You will provide practical, independent advice and oversight, translate legal and enterprise requirements into workable arrangements, and help leaders understand and discharge their responsibilities. Reporting to the Enterprise EHS Compliance Specialist within the Safety, Operational Compliance & Training Capability Area provides independence from the teams delivering Australian contracts and operations while keeping the role closely connected to local leaders and the work itself.

You will be successful if you can build consistent systems across geographically dispersed locations, maintain visible engagement with work as performed, and influence managers and teammates without creating unnecessary complexity. The role leads the Australian WHS and environmental network and works closely with Aviation Safety, Operational Compliance, Facilities, People, Security and operational teams to manage shared risks without duplicating regulatory aviation safety or quality-assurance responsibilities.

What You'll Do

  • Lead and coordinate the implementation and continual improvement of WHS and environmental management arrangements across all Metrea sites and activities in Australia
  • Provide independent, practical advice to Australian leaders and managers on their WHS and environmental duties, risks, controls and decision-making
  • Maintain the Australian WHS and environmental compliance framework, including legal and other requirements registers, regulatory-change monitoring, permits, licences, records and statutory notifications
  • Lead workplace risk management, inspections, assurance activities and management-of-change reviews, with particular focus on critical risks and the effectiveness of controls in practice
  • Coordinate the reporting, classification and investigation of incidents, near misses, hazards and environmental events, and monitor corrective actions through to effective closure
  • Establish and lead a network of site-based WHS and environmental representatives, providing direction, coaching and consistent tools while preserving line-management accountability
  • Coordinate worker consultation, inductions, role-relevant training, emergency preparedness and practical safety and environmental communications across Australian operations
  • Manage environmental risks and controls, including hazardous chemicals and fuels, spill prevention and response, waste, emissions, stormwater and site-specific approvals
  • Monitor contractor and supplier WHS and environmental performance and ensure applicable requirements are integrated into procurement, mobilisation and ongoing delivery
  • Provide clear performance reporting, trends and emerging-risk insight to Australian and enterprise leadership, and support the operational implementation of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001 within Metrea's integrated management system

What You Bring

  • Ideally a recognised qualification in work health and safety, occupational health and safety, environmental management or a closely related discipline, supported by relevant professional experience
  • Substantial experience leading WHS and environmental management in operational workplaces, including responsibility across multiple sites or geographically dispersed teams
  • Strong working knowledge of Australian Commonwealth, state and territory WHS and environmental legislation and the ability to determine which requirements apply to different sites and activities
  • Demonstrated capability in risk assessment, workplace inspections, incident investigation, root-cause analysis, corrective-action management and control-effectiveness assurance
  • Experience developing and implementing practical policies, procedures, standards, training and reporting arrangements that are proportionate to operational risk
  • Strong judgement, professional independence and the confidence to challenge unsafe or environmentally harmful work while helping teams develop workable solutions
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to prepare investigation reports, performance analysis and concise advice for senior leaders
  • Strong facilitation, coaching and stakeholder-management skills, with the ability to build a consistent national network without removing accountability from operational leaders

Nice to Haves

  • Experience in aviation, aerospace, defence, maintenance, engineering, logistics or another safety-critical industry
  • Working knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, including implementation or internal-audit experience within an integrated management system
  • Formal training in a recognised incident-investigation or root-cause-analysis methodology
  • Professional membership or certification through the Australian Institute of Health & Safety, Environment Institute of Australia and New Zealand, or an equivalent body
  • Experience managing psychosocial hazards, hazardous chemi
