Health Safety and Wellbeing Business Partner
Worker Type
Permanent
Here at BNZ, it's about more than just banking. We work together in an agile, energising environment to create innovative solutions through our promise "If you can imagine a better future, let's find a way."
We support wellbeing, flexible working and have a generous leave offering. There is the opportunity for growth, learning and career development. No two days are the same.
The Health, Safety & Wellbeing (HSW) tīma sits within Leadership, Culture & Wellbeing and plays an important role in helping BNZ provide a healthy, safe and supportive environment for our people.
We’re a small, experienced and collaborative tīma made up of two HSW Business Partners, an HSW Coordinator and the Head of Health, Safety & Wellbeing. We work closely with our wider Leadership, Culture & Wellbeing colleagues and work across BNZ to provide practical advice, strengthen risk management and continuously improve the way health, safety and wellbeing is managed.
This is a Wellington-based hybrid role. You'll spend three days each week in the office, including our Tuesday anchor day, with flexibility for the remaining two days.
Mō te Tūranga | About the Role
We sat down with our Head of Health and Safety who let us know more about the role:
What does a day in the life of a Health, Safety and Wellbeing Business Partner look like?
No two days will necessarily look the same. You could be:
- Working with leaders and teams to provide practical HSW advice and support.
- Developing and supporting our HSW Champions and People Leaders to build HSW capability.
- Supporting incident investigations and helping identify underlying causes and meaningful improvements.
- Providing guidance on injury management and supporting safe and sustainable return to work.
- Supporting the identification, assessment and management of HSW risks, including critical risks.
- Coaching and supporting HSW committees to be effective and outcomes focused.
- Developing and improving HSW policies, procedures and guidance.
- Contributing to projects that simplify our approach and lift HSW maturity across BNZ.
- Using HSW data, insights and systems to identify opportunities for improvement.
What is the tīma culture and environment like?
We live and breathe our values at BNZ and take the wellbeing of our people seriously. We are a supportive Health, Safety & Wellbeing tīma who mahi (work) hard with a mission to uplift maturity but don't take themselves too seriously at the same time!
What do we want you to know before you apply?
We're looking for someone with strong HSW technical capability who can turn that knowledge into practical advice and solutions. A formal Health and Safety Qualification is a must! This could be NEBOSH certificate/diploma or equivalent.
In addition you'll bring:
- Strong knowledge and practical application of New Zealand health and safety legislation.
- Experience in risk management and critical-risk assessment, with the ability to understand controls and how their effectiveness can be verified.
- Experience supporting incident investigations and root-cause analysis.
- Knowledge and experience in injury management and return to work.
- Strong written capability, with experience developing clear and practical HSW policies, procedures, standards or guidance.
- Experience with the ACC Accredited Employer Programme (AEP) and associated audit requirements.
- Strong stakeholder engagement, influencing and coaching skills, with the ability to work effectively with people at different levels of an organisation.
- Confidence working with HSW systems and data. Experience with ecoPortal would be an advantage.
What will success look like for the candidate in this tūranga?
Success will mean building strong relationships across BNZ and helping our people and leaders manage HSW risks confidently and effectively.
You'll help us continue to lift HSW maturity by identifying opportunities for improvement, strengthening how risks and controls are managed, and making our processes as simple and effective as possible while keeping our people safe and well.
