Role Purpose

The Senior Industrial Engineer leads the analysis, design, and optimisation of manufacturing systems to improve safety, productivity, capacity, material flow, space utilisation , cost, and operational performance. The role applies Industrial Engineering, Lean, data analytics, and automation principles to develop scalable and sustainable solutions across manufacturing and logistics operations.

Key Responsibilities

1. Process & Productivity Optimisation

  • Analyze manufacturing processes using time study, work measurement, line balancing, value-stream mapping, and capacity analysis.
  • Identify bottlenecks, waste, and productivity opportunities.
  • Establish standard work, labor standards, cycle times, and engineered capacity models.
  • Drive improvements in labor productivity, equipment utilization, throughput, lead time, and operating cost.
  • Lead Lean/continuous-improvement initiatives using structured problem-solving methodologies.

2. Material Flow & Intralogistics

  • Design and optimise end-to-end material flow from receiving and warehouse through production to finished-goods dispatch.
  • Define point-of-use inventory, line-side presentation, replenishment strategy, supermarkets, buffers, Kanban, milk runs, and material-handling methods.
  • Optimise material movement to reduce handling, travel distance, WIP, and non-value-added activities.
  • Collaborate with Supply Chain, Warehouse, Manufacturing, and 3PL teams on integrated material-flow solutions.

3. Factory Layout & Space Optimisation

  • Conduct space, capacity, adjacency, traffic-flow, and future-growth analysis.
  • Balance production density with safe people, material, equipment, and autonomous-vehicle movement.
  • Establish layout standards and design principles supporting Lean flow, flexibility, automation, and future expansion.
  • Lead layout development for new products, capacity expansion, equipment installation, and factory transformation projects.

4. Capacity & Manufacturing System Design

  • Develop capacity models covering labor, equipment, space, material handling, and production constraints.
  • Perform scenario analysis for volume changes, product mix, shift patterns, automation, and future demand.
  • Determine appropriate resource requirements and identify capacity constraints.
  • Support strategic manufacturing footprint and capital-investment decisions with quantitative analysis.

5. Industrial Engineering Standards & Governance

  • Develop and maintain IE methodologies, design standards, calculation models, and engineering guidelines.
  • Establish standardised approaches for time study, capacity calculation, layout design, material flow, space utilisation, and productivity measurement.
  • Ensure engineering solutions comply with EHS, Quality, regulatory, ergonomic, and operational requirements.
  • Promote replication of proven solutions and best practices across manufacturing sites.

6. Data Analytics & Performance Management

  • Analyse operational data to identify losses, constraints, and improvement opportunities.
  • Develop engineering KPIs and performance models covering productivity, utilisation, capacity, flow, WIP, space, and cost.
  • Use simulation, statistical analysis, visualisation, or digital modelling where appropriate.
  • Validate improvement benefits through measurable before-and-after performance.

7. Technical Leadership & Coaching

  • Serve as an IE subject-matter expert for complex manufacturing and material-flow problems.
  • Mentor junior Industrial Engineers and support development of IE capability.
  • Review engineering analyses, layouts, standards, and improvement proposals.
  • Facilitate workshops and provide technical guidance to cross-functional teams.

Qualifications & Experience

Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Operations Engineering , or a related discipline, typically with 5–8+ years of relevant manufacturing/industrial engineering experience .

Preferred experience includes Lean Manufacturing, work measurement, line balancing, capacity modeling, factory/warehouse layout, material flow, ergonomicsand manufacturing systems.

Useful technical capabilities include AutoCAD or equivalent layout tools, Excel/data analytics, Power BI, simulation tools, ERP/MES/WMS systems , and Lean/Six Sigma methodologies.
