Our Group Strategy & Corporate Development team⭐

We’re looking for a Director of Strategic Partnerships to shape and lead Monzo’s most important company-wide partnerships.

Teams across Monzo already work with some of the world’s largest businesses. But we don’t always approach these partnerships in a strategic manner underpinned by a strategic vision of what the full potential looks like aligned to Monzo’s overall strategy. . You’ll bring that work together, define what Monzo wants from our biggest partners and build shared roadmaps that create value over several years.

You’ll also identify new partners that could transform our growth. That might mean finding new ways to distribute Monzo at scale, making our products more valuable or helping us enter and grow in new markets.

This is a group-wide strategy and relationship role, not a partnership execution or procurement role. Product and business teams will continue to own detailed delivery and negotiations in their areas. You’ll set the overall direction, align the right people and remain accountable for the value each strategic partnership delivers.

🔑 You’ll play a key role by…

Build Monzo’s strategic partnership portfolio

  • Map our most important existing partnerships and conversations across products, teams and markets and identify where separate conversations with the same partner should become one joined-up relationship.
  • Assess where partnerships could accelerate Monzo’s company strategy, customer growth or international expansion.
  • Find new global and regional partners that could unlock distribution, product capabilities or commercial value.
  • Help Monzo decide when it should partner, build or buy.

Create ambitious partnership roadmaps

  • Define what Monzo wants from each strategic partner now and over the longer term.
  • Build company-wide roadmaps that connect opportunities across personal banking, Monzo Business and different markets and turn those roadmaps into clear priorities and plans for the teams responsible for delivery.
  • Make sure near-term deals support the bigger opportunity rather than limiting it.
  • Spot where a partnership could develop into a broader strategic investment or acquisition opportunity.

Lead our most senior partner relationships

  • Build trusted relationships with your counterparts  at major global and regional businesses by mapping the key decision-makers on both sides and connecting the right people at the right time.
  • Maintain shared priorities, resolve issues and keep both organisations focused on the long-term opportunity.
  • Prepare Monzo’s Executive team for senior partner conversations and bring them in where their involvement will have the most impact.

Create alignment across Monzo

  • Connect conversations happening across Monzo without slowing teams down or taking away their ownership.
  • Help teams make informed trade-offs when local priorities compete with a larger company-wide opportunity.
  • Give senior leaders a clear view of our partnership portfolio, progress, risks and opportunities.

Deliver measurable value

  • Define clear commercial and strategic outcomes for each partnership.
  • Track outcomes such as customer growth, distribution, revenue, cost savings and stronger customer propositions.
  • Challenge partnerships that use significant time or create complexity without enough value.

🤩 We’d love to hear from you if…

  • You’ve built and grown complex strategic partnerships with large global or regional businesses.
  • You’re highly commercial and can turn an opportunity into a clear case for customer and business value.
  • You can connect long-term company strategy with practical priorities and measurable outcomes.
  • You’re comfortable building relationships with executives and preparing senior leaders for important conversations.
  • You’ve influenced complex organisations where delivery sits with several different teams.
  • You’re resourceful, self-sufficient and comfortable creating structure in a new and ambiguous area.

It would be useful if

  • You’ve worked in a high-growth, regulated or international business.
  • You understand consumer distribution partnerships across areas like technology, telecommunications, retail or digital platforms.
  • You’ve worked closely with product, procurement, corporate development or strategy teams.
  • You’ve helped build a new partnership function or operating model.
  • You can assess when an opportunity might be better suited to investment or acquisition.
  • You’ve worked across several products, business units or countries.

What success could look like

  • created a clear view of Monzo’s most important existing and potential strategic partners
  • focused teams on the opportunities that could create the most value
  • agreed multi-year roadmaps with several priority partners
  • strengthened senior relationships on both sides of those partnerships
  • helped teams deliver measurable commercial or customer outcomes
  • created a repeatable way to source, assess and manage company-wide partnerships.
