JP - Tokyo, JapanPosted Oct 27
Manager

The Pokémon GO team is looking for a Product Marketing Manager, Live Events to lead product marketing for our global portfolio of real-world Pokémon GO experiences, from major tentpole events to scaled live event programs.

This role is expected to focus primarily on Live Events across APAC, including Japan, while also supporting Live Events initiatives at the global level. You will combine strategic thinking, creative marketing, cross-functional leadership, and an AI-forward mindset to shape how Pokémon GO live events are positioned, branded, and brought to market. You will translate product, player, and business priorities into compelling reasons for Trainers to participate both in-game and in the real world, while using advanced AI tools to accelerate insights, planning, creative exploration, and execution.

You will partner closely with Live Events Production, Game Design, Product Management, Creative, Community, Social, CRM, Communications/PR, Analytics, regional marketing teams, and other cross-functional partners to create and execute go-to-market plans for Pokémon GO live event experiences. You will also collaborate with key external partners to align on strategy, creative, communications, and approvals while maintaining the quality standards expected of Pokémon GO.

What You Will Do

  • Lead Live Events marketing strategy. Own the end-to-end product marketing strategy for assigned Pokémon GO live events, defining objectives, audiences, positioning, marketing approach, and go-to-market plans that support player and business goals.
  • Lead marketing within the Live Events team. Partner with Production, Game Design, Product Management, and other cross-functional leaders to help shape event concepts, drive alignment, and connect the in-game and real-world experience.
  • Develop event positioning, branding, and messaging. Translate event concepts, gameplay, player insights, and regional context into clear positioning, value propositions, campaign narratives, naming and messaging frameworks, and player-facing communications.
  • Lead integrated go-to-market planning. Build global marketing plans across web, social, CRM/direct marketing, community, PR, creators, platform partnerships, paid media, and regional channels, aligning teams around key milestones, deliverables, dependencies, and launch readiness.
  • Leverage advanced AI tools and workflows. Use leading AI capabilities to accelerate insight synthesis, strategic planning, campaign ideation, localization support, project workflows, quality control, and performance analysis. Build repeatable AI-enabled processes that improve speed and quality while applying strong judgment around accuracy, confidentiality, IP, brand standards, and human review.
  • Connect the real-world and in-game player experience. Partner closely with Production, Product Management, and Game Design to ensure marketing reflects the full event experience, communicates player value clearly, and creates cohesion across physical and digital touchpoints.
  • Lead creative development. Develop creative briefs and partner with internal creative teams, agencies, regional teams, and external partners to produce campaign concepts, key art, video, digital assets, event branding, and other player-facing materials.
  • Drive cross-functional marketing execution. Coordinate stakeholders across functions and regions, clarify ownership and timelines, identify risks and trade-offs, and keep complex event marketing work moving from concept through post-event learning.
  • Coordinate global and regional marketing. Create strategies that can scale across Pokémon GO live events while enabling regional teams to adapt plans based on local player behavior, cultural insights, market opportunities, and on-the-ground expertise.
  • Partner with external stakeholders. Lead marketing alignment with key brand, licensing, and external partners on positioning, branding, creative, communications, approvals, and major franchise initiatives connected to live events.
  • Own marketing measurement and learning. Establish KPIs and success criteria upfront, partner with Analytics and cross-functional teams to evaluate performance, and turn event and campaign learnings into recommendations for future programs.
  • Prioritize marketing resources and investments. Help direct creative resources, agency support, channel investment, and marketing budgets toward the highest-impact player and business opportunities.
  • Champion the Trainer perspective. Develop a deep understanding of Pokémon GO players, live event attendees, community sentiment, and participation barriers, and bring those insights into event concepting, positioning, go-to-market planning, and marketing decisions.

What you will need

  • 5+ years of experience in product marketing, consumer marketing, integrated marketing, live events marketing, entertainment marketing, or related disciplines.
  • Experience developing and executing go-to-market strategies for consumer products, experiences, or live-service businesses, ideally within mobile gaming, entertainment, technology, or location-based experiences.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead complex cross-functional initiatives involving product, creative, marketing, production, regional, and external partner teams.
  • Strong understanding of positioning, messaging, audience segmentation, campaign strategy, brand development, and integrated marketing.
  • Advanced fluency with AI-powered tools and a demonstrated ability to apply them meaningfully to marketing strategy and execution, build efficient workflows, critically evaluate outputs, and use AI responsibly in a brand- and partner-sensitive environment.
  • Experience using player, product, campaign, and/or event data to identify opportunities, establish success metrics, measure performance, and inform future strategy.
  • Strong strategic thinking with the ability to move comfortably from high-level event strategy into hands-on execution.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and presentation skills, with the ability to create clarity, drive alignment, and communicate recommendations to senior stakeholders and external partners.
  • Strong project management and organizational skills, with the ability to operate effectively across overlapping event timelines in a fast-moving live-service environment.
  • Collaborative working style and demonstrated ability to influence without direct authority, navigate trade-offs, and work effectively across tightly integrated cross-functional teams.
  • Business-level proficiency in both English and Japanese is required.
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.

Plus If...

  • You have experience marketing large-scale live events, experiential programs, location-based entertainment, or other real-world consumer experiences.
  • You have marketed mobile or free-to-play games, or worked on a live-service product with a frequent content and event cadence.
  • You have experience building campaigns that connect a digital product experience with an in-person or experiential component.
  • You have worked with global and regional teams and developed marketing strategies across multiple markets and cultures.
  • You have built or scaled AI-enabled marketing workflows, experimentation frameworks, knowledge systems, or creative processes that improved team speed, decision quality, or campaign effectiveness.
  • You have experience partnering directly with Product Management, Game Design, Production, and/or live event teams.
  • You have experience working with major entertainment or licensed IP, especially in highly collaborative approval environments.
  • You understand Pokémon GO, its community, and the broader Pokémon franchise.
  • Experience planning and executing marketing or live-event initiatives with local governments, tourism boards, or other public-sector partners in Japan.
