What we are looking for

Aurora hires talented people with diverse backgrounds who are ready to help build a transportation ecosystem that will make our roads safer, get crucial goods where they need to go, and make mobility more efficient and accessible for all.

We’re searching for a Manufacturing Hardware Technician. Manufacturing Technicians work as part of the Manufacturing team to build Aurora's Hardware in accordance with Engineering Specifications. MFG Technicians have a wide range of duties and responsibilities, including but not limited to complete end-to-end vehicle integration, which involves the full up-fitting of a vehicle, whether it be a car or truck. This process is also referred to as vehicle kit or kitting. Additionally, technicians are responsible for the completion and assembly of sub-assemblies, which includes wiring harnesses, computer modules, and other mechanical assemblies.

In this role you will

  • Deliver high-quality workmanship: clean harness routing, proper terminations, correct torque, and builds that pass inspection the first time.
  • Capable of building all of Aurora’s hardware systems and sub-systems, regardless of platform. This includes complete vehicle integration and the building and outfitting of cars or trucks. All wiring harnesses, including main, roof, cabin, sub, sensor pod, and chassis. Building sensitive electronics, including modules and computers that require handling of ESD sensitive exposed circuit board assemblies. This may also include the repair, rework, and diagnostic isolation of board-level components.
  • Read and understand engineered drawings, including BOM. Provide redline feedback to engineering when required and applicable. Acquire and receive materials to build assemblies using engineered drawings. Own, maintain, and care for all necessary tooling to perform Aurora’s builds. Technicians are expected to follow best practices and training defined by Aurora.
  • Utilize logical diagnostic processes to solve vehicle and process problems, often referred to as the five whys in pFMEA and dFMEA (failure mode effects and analysis):
  • 1. Verify: Ensure there is an actual problem.
  • 2. Analyze: Gather information, data, and resources.
  • 3. Isolate: Use testing, test equipment, and other methods.
  • 4. Repair: Make repairs to the hardware to rectify the original issue.
  • 5. Confirm: Ensure that it actually works and resolves the original problem.
  • Technicians diligently document their findings for repairs, solutions, or actions in multiple ticketing systems. Additionally, they may alert engineering and/or management based on the needs and priorities of the task.
  • Keep work areas clean, organized, and safe (5S): return tools, label and stage parts, clear debris, and leave each vehicle and bench ready for the next shift.

Required qualifications

  • Candidates should be technicians with Problem-Solving abilities.
  • Experience in production environments and/or equipment repair
  • Knowledge of quality management systems ISO ISO 9001 standards
  • Proficiency in interpreting engineering drawings, functional descriptions, and wiring schematics.
  • Must certify and maintain IPC training J-STD-001, A-610, A-620, 7711/7722, and GD&T. Acquire, maintain, and comply with refrigerant recovery (S609 Clean Air Act). Continue education through company resources to understand, prepare for, and train in future technologies.
  • Physical abilities are important, as candidates will need to handle, feel, and control objects, as well as grasp, move, and assemble small items. The role requires the ability to stand, walk, climb, carry materials, bend at the waist, reach, and kneel for extended periods. Candidates must be able to ascend and descend ladders, scaffolds, and stairs that are 20 to 25 feet high, with a maximum unassisted lift of 50 pounds and a typical lift of 20 pounds or less. They should also be able to pull or push wheeled equipment to build locations. Exposure to moving parts and tools such as impact tools, drills, and cutting equipment is expected, and wearing personal protective equipment (PPE) daily is mandatory.
