About the role

We are seeking a highly skilled Platform Engineer to design, engineer and maintain enterprise operating system platforms across Haleon’s Cloud and Edge environments. This role is primarily focused on Linux platforms, with responsibility for supporting Windows Server platforms and related technologies where required.

Working within an Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and DevOps delivery model, the successful candidate will leverage technologies such as Ansible and Terraform to develop scalable, secure, and consistent platform solutions. The role requires strong Linux engineering expertise, automation skills, and a passion for continuous improvement.

This is a platform engineering and consultancy role rather than a traditional operations position. The focus is on engineering, automation, and continuous improvement of server platforms, while providing technical guidance to application, cloud, and infrastructure teams.

Key Responsibilities

• Engineer, automate, and continuously improve enterprise Linux and Windows server platform capabilities.

• Define and maintain operating system standards, engineering patterns, and best practices.

• Develop and support Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and platform automation solutions using approved tooling.

• Provide technical consultancy and guidance to application, cloud, and infrastructure teams.

• Ensure server platforms align with security, compliance, and operational requirements.

• Support the delivery of secure, reliable, and scalable platform services across cloud and edge environments.

• Drive platform standardisation and continuous improvement initiatives.

Qualifications and Skills

Education

• Bachelor’s Degree: Preferably in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related field (of equivalent experience).

Professional Experience

• 8+ years' experience administering and engineering enterprise server platforms, with a primary focus on Linux operating systems and exposure to Windows Server environments.

• Experience supporting Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Oracle Linux, Ubuntu, and Windows Server operating systems in enterprise environments.

• Experience building, maintaining, and supporting Linux and Windows Server gold images and standard server templates.

• Experience implementing CIS Benchmarks and operating system security hardening controls.

• Experience developing and supporting automation solutions using Ansible, Terraform, Packer, Python, Shell scripting, and/or PowerShell.

• Experience working with CI/CD pipelines and Infrastructure-as-Code methodologies.

• Experience engineering and supporting Linux and Windows Server workloads within Microsoft Azure environments.

• Experience with operating system lifecycle management, including patching, upgrades, software repositories, and image maintenance.

• Experience with Red Hat Satellite or equivalent enterprise operating system management solutions is desirable.

Essential Skills

• Strong administration and engineering knowledge of Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL), Oracle Linux, and Ubuntu.

• Good working knowledge of Windows Server administration, operating system management, and associated technologies.

• Knowledge of enterprise server imaging, operating system deployment, and image lifecycle management.

• Strong automation skills using Ansible and IaC tools such as Terraform, Packer.

• Proficiency in Python, Shell scripting, and/or PowerShell.

• Knowledge of Microsoft Azure infrastructure, cloud services, and hybrid environments.

• Understanding of Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) and CI/CD principles.

• Knowledge of CIS Benchmarks and operating system security hardening standards.

• Knowledge of Red Hat Satellite, package lifecycle management, patch management, and software repository administration.

• Understanding of Active Directory, DNS, identity and access management, and enterprise authentication services.

• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving skills.

• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across infrastructure, cloud, security, and application teams.
