Manager, SMB Sales
The Company
PayPal has been revolutionizing commerce globally for more than 25 years. Creating innovative experiences that make moving money, selling, and shopping simple, personalized, and secure, PayPal empowers consumers and businesses in approximately 200 markets to join and thrive in the global economy.
We operate a global, two-sided network at scale that connects hundreds of millions of merchants and consumers. We help merchants and consumers connect, transact, and complete payments, whether they are online or in person. PayPal is more than a connection to third-party payment networks. We provide proprietary payment solutions accepted by merchants that enable the completion of payments on our platform on behalf of our customers.
We offer our customers the flexibility to use their accounts to purchase and receive payments for goods and services, as well as the ability to transfer and withdraw funds. We enable consumers to exchange funds more safely with merchants using a variety of funding sources, which may include a bank account, a PayPal or Venmo account balance, PayPal and Venmo branded credit products, a credit card, a debit card, certain cryptocurrencies, or other stored value products such as gift cards, and eligible credit card rewards. Our PayPal, Venmo, and Xoom products also make it safer and simpler for friends and family to transfer funds to each other. We offer merchants an end-to-end payments solution that provides authorization and settlement capabilities, as well as instant access to funds and payouts. We also help merchants connect with their customers, process exchanges and returns, and manage risk. We enable consumers to engage in cross-border shopping and merchants to extend their global reach while reducing the complexity and friction involved in enabling cross-border trade.
Our beliefs are the foundation for how we conduct business every day. We live each day guided by our core values of Inclusion, Innovation, Collaboration, and Wellness. Together, our values ensure that we work together as one global team with our customers at the center of everything we do – and they push us to ensure we take care of ourselves, each other, and our communities.
Job Summary
As a Regional Sales Manager within Ignite SMB EMEA, you will lead a regional sales organisation delivered through our vendor partner, managed day to day through a layer of Team Leads and Performance Specialists. This is a sales leadership role first: you are expected to be a strong salesperson yourself, able to coach deal strategy, objection handling, and pipeline discipline, and to inspire reps to perform, not simply to review dashboards and hold others accountable from a distance. You will own your region's commercial results, build the capability of the Team Leads and Performance Specialists who run it, and act as a credible, data-informed voice to senior PayPal leadership on regional performance.
Job Description
Essential Responsibilities
- Lead functional projects and programs that drive business or process improvements.
- Identify issues and recommend best practices based on specialized expertise.
- Partner with cross-functional teams to analyze business trends and implement solutions.
- Contribute to the development and execution of strategic initiatives within the sales function.
- Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of sales processes and make recommendations for enhancements.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years relevant experience and a Bachelor’s degree OR Any equivalent combination of education and experience.
Additional Responsibilities & Preferred Qualifications
German language skills
- Business proficiency in German is preferred to support effective communication and collaboration with German-speaking sales teams and regional stakeholders.
Lead, Coach and Inspire Sales Talent
- Sales leadership: Bring genuine sales credibility to the role. You know how to sell, and you use that skill to coach Team Leads and reps on deal strategy, objection handling, and pipeline management, not just to review their numbers.
- Rep capability: Take ownership for whether reps on the floor are actually capable of doing the job. Use the Team Lead and Performance Specialist layer to get there, and treat the job as unfinished until the rep population is genuinely improving.
- Inspiring performance: Motivate reps to want to perform, not just measure whether they do. Build a team culture people want to be part of, working through Team Leads and Performance Specialists to make that real on the floor every day.
- Developing leaders: Invest in the growth of Team Leads and Performance Specialists as leaders in their own right. Understand their development needs, challenge them to grow, and build a layer that can run rep performance well without constant direction.
Drive Commercial Performance and Reporting
- Data fluency: Read and present team performance data, including pipeline, conversion, ramp, and headcount, confidently and without relying on others to prepare it.
- Capacity planning: Track headcount against pipeline targets and ramp timelines, flagging risk to leadership before it affects performance.
- Strategic feedback: Give PayPal leadership evidence-based input on what is and is not working, drawing on patterns from the ground.
Build Stakeholder Relationships
- Executive presence: Present to senior PayPal leadership and country GMs with clarity, translating operational performance into a clear narrative.
- Cross-functional relationships: Build strong working relationships with Sales Leaders, HR, Enablement, Marketing, and the vendor organisation to drive shared accountability.
- Ground-level visibility: Run regular touchpoints and skip-levels to stay connected to what is actually happening on the floor, not just what is reported up.
Own the Operating Rhythm
- Rhythm of business: Own the weekly update, monthly GM cadence, and structured check-ins with Team Leads and Performance Specialists, keeping the operating rhythm consistent and disciplined.
- Ownership and resilience: Take full accountability for regional performance and lead recovery when things are not working. Stay composed under pressure, act ahead of being asked, and bring solutions rather than problems to leadership.
- Continuous improvement: Seek out feedback and apply it, championing change rather than defending the status quo, and creating space for your team to do the same.
